Edo-Tokyo Museum

Divided into two exhibition areas for Edo and Tokyo. The museum introduces history, peoples' lives, and culture using exhibits and models. In the exhibition area on the 6th floor, there is a restoration of the Bridge, "Nihombashi" as it was at the end of the Edo period. There are also miniatures of samurai residences and brick houses in Ginza. The museum is a new attraction in Tokyo. 3 minutes from Ryogoku Stn., JR.

Sumo Museum

Located on the first floor of Kokugikan, which is the Sumo Hall of Fame. The museum houses a collection of more than 30,000 artworks including clothes of legendary sumo wrestlers, ornamental aprons worn by grand champion sumo wrestlers, scrolls of amateur sumo during the Edo period, woodblock prints, and photos of famous matches. Museum of Paper

The Museum is divided into 4 exhibition areas and introduces paper including Western paper and Japanese paper. The 1st exhibition area introduces the modern paper industry; the 2nd exhibition area introduces the history of the Japanese paper industry; the 3rd exhibition area introduces the history of paper; and, the 4th exhibition area is used for special exhibitions. 5 minutes from Oji Stn., JR.

Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo

An art museum located on the north side of Kiba Park and has a comprehensive collection of contemporary artworks produced since 1945. As an art museum, the museum consists of well-organized facilities including the art information center and the museum shop, in addition to permanent exhibition facilities and the nation's largest exhibition facilities for special shows. The collection of artworks totals about 3,600 pieces including oil paintings, traditional Japanese paintings, prints, and sculptures. Of these, about 150 artworks are regularly displayed. 15 minutes from Kiba Stn., or Kikukawa Stn., Subway.

Kite Museum

Its collection of 4,000 kites and related materials includes Edo Nishiki-E-Tako with color woodblock prints of the Edo period and kites from Asia, Europe, and the U.S. About 300 items of the collection are on permanent display. Among these, the section for Edo Nishiki-E-Tako is highly recommended for a visit. 3 minutes from Nihombashi Stn., Subway.

Tokyo National Museum

Surrounding the court, traditional artworks including Japanese paintings, sculptures and handicrafts are on display in the main building so that visitors can view a wide range of Japanese art. On the right side, there is a building called "Hyokei-kan" where archeological artifacts from Egypt and the Korean Peninsula are on display. On the left side, there is a building called "Toyo-kan", which is designated an important cultural property and represents a typical western-style building at the end of the Meiji Era. Setagaya Art Museum

Surrounded by trees in the Kinuta Park, this is a modern museum with an open and friendly atmosphere. It houses a collection of about 8,000 artworks. The collection centers on naive art and works of artists related to Setagaya. Bijutsukanmae bus stop (bus from Yoga Stn., Tokyu Den-entoshi Line.

Museum of Maritime Science

Historical items, models and panels explaining the seas and ships are exhibited in a building that imitates a 60,000-ton passenger ship. The attendants' uniforms, which resemble those of sailors, give you the feeling of being on a cruise. You can experience operating a large ship in virtual reality with a computer graphic set-up. The Ueno Royal Museum

This museum is famous for a large-scale competition open to the public. The museum does not regularly exhibit its permanent collection but holds exhibitions which are specially arranged by the museum several times a year.
