| Hakone's spectacular scenery and its proximity to Tokyo make it the city's favorite back-to-nature getaway. Historically a post-station town on the Tokaido, the major highway during the Edo Period (1600-1868), Hakone's numerous hotspring baths were once enjoyed by nobility. Now, though most of the major attractions can be seen in a day, visitors often stay over at the traditional Japanese-style inns and grand hotels the area affords, to wake up to majestic views of Mt. Fuji seemingly right outside their windows. |
